Welcome to the Visian ICL Community!
The goal of this site is to build a community of people who have had the Visian ICL surgical procedure already along with people who are contemplating having the procedure. Personal ICL experiences from people who have had the procedure will present quality reference material for the curious others.
I went through with the procedure on June 4th, 2013. Going into the ICL, I had a myopia of -12.25 diopters in my left eye and -12.75 diopters in my right eye. But, before I had the procedure I searched for personal Visian ICL stories or experiences and noticed they were pretty lacking. So, hopefully the Visian ICL Community will help fill that gap for the myopic masses.
STAAR Surgical’s Visian ICL has a proven track record of providing improved quality of vision. When compared to other surgical vision correction procedures, the Visian ICL delivers sharper vision and high patient satisfaction. The immediate improvement of vision quality and the remarkably short and painless recovery creates a unique “WOW!” factor you will notice immediately.
The Visian ICL is the procedure of choice for patients who need and expect higher quality results in performance and safety. The Visian ICL is clearly the choice for patients with an active lifestyle and those who cannot accept anything less than the highest quality vision.
The Visian ICL is an Implantable Collamer Lens that works with the eye to correct vision. Unlike traditional contact lenses that go on the surface of the eye, the Visian ICL is positioned into the eye between the iris (the colored part of the eye) and the natural lens where it stays indefinitely. If your vision changes dramatically, however, it can be removed from the eye.
Technologically Advanced Lens Material
Unlike other lenses, the Visian ICL is made from Collamer, a technologically advanced lens material exclusive to STAAR Surgical. Because of the collagen base in Collamer, it is biocompatible with the eye (not seen as a foreign object to the body) and provides exceptional quality of vision. The lens rests quietly in position while accurately correcting vision. The Visian ICL is the best choice for a lens that is going to remain inside your eye for a lifetime.
High Definition Vision By Becoming A Visianary
For years, the only method of permanent vision correction that didn’t involve glasses or contact lenses was corrective laser eye surgery. With the advent of the Visian ICL, however, that’s all changed. Now, you can enjoy high definition vision by becoming a Visianary. This new level of vision correction is sharper, clearer, more crisp and vivid, and has greater depth and dimension – in a simple, 15-30 minute outpatient procedure. After the simple outpatient procedure, patients experience an immediate improvement in vision quality and are “Wowed” by the results. In fact, the quality of vision achieved is many times often better than any previous vision correction solution and most of the time a correction of better than 20/20.
The Visian ICL Procedure
One week prior to the procedure your doctor will schedule a YAG laser iridotomy to prepare your eye for implantation of the Visian ICL. This is necessary to ensure the fluid inside your eye flows properly after your surgery.
The day of surgery.. Prior to implantation, you will receive topical anesthetic drops to minimize discomfort. Your surgeon may also administer a minor sedative or minor anesthesia. Then, the doctor will create two micro openings in the edge of your cornea that will be used to position the lens.
As the lens is injected, it will gently unfold in your eye. Special marks on the lens ensure proper positioning. That’s it – the procedure takes 15-30 minutes. Because the opening is microscopic, it will recover naturally in a very short period of time without needing any sutures. An hour or two after the procedure you will be able to leave the clinic.
After The Visian ICL Procedure
To complete the procedure, the surgeon will instill eye drops which help prevent infection and inflammation. You will continue to use these drops for several days once you are home. DO NOT rub your eyes especially for the first week. If you experience pain or notice any sudden decrease in vision, you should contact your doctor immediately. Then your only instructions are to check in for eye exams on a routine basis and live your life as a new Visianary!
